The video unit allowed me to see the difference of an effective lesson and not effective lesson. I was able to see ESA model applied and how teacher attitude can make or break student understanding of a new language. In lesson 2, the effective lesson, the teacher used mime and gestures to help students better understand the vocabulary. Students were challenged but not to frustration level. It was great model to see and learn from.This lesson covered both condition speech and reported speech. Conditional speech is speech about things that might be or might have been. Reported speech is the grammar used to quote what someone else said. Because both topics are quite complex and somewhat nuanced, the unit pointed out there are many different mistakes students can make with them. It also included ideas for teaching the different conditionals and reported speech.
