In the third unit, we learnt how to organize a lesson. There are three basic stages in every lesson: engage, study and activate. However, these stages do not need to be executed in one particular order. There are straight arrow lessons, boomerang lessons and patchwork lessons. Boomerang and patchwork lessons are better suited for more advanced learners. The engage phase attempts to draw learners into the lesson through music, games, interesting pictures, etc. This study phase focuses on the language itself through worksheets and drilling exercises (during this stage students can be corrected). The activate stage is meant to get students talking freely and communicatively; the focus during this stage is fluency and not accuracy.
