Unit 12 introduced methods for teaching the productive learning skills, speaking and writing. I learned about the differences between accuracy- and fluency-based speaking activities, with the former being focused on producing correct language, and the latter being focused on encouraging students to experiment and be creative with the language. The unit also briefly discussed concerns specific to teaching writing skills, and advised that teachers consider problems with handwriting, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and layout when creating lessons. Finally, the unit encouraged the use of games in both speaking- and writing-focused lessons, as they can be very helpful in maintaining student interest, engagement, and energy in class.
