In this unit I learned why and how teachers evaluate students. Evaluation is important for measuring student’s initial language level, determining what information is being retained and what needs more work, prompting student review, preparing students for formal tests, and earning certifications for studying and working in English-speaking countries. The most common types of evaluations include tutorials, placement tests, progress tests, student evaluations, practice tests, achievement tests, and external examinations. Teachers often will be required to evaluate student periodically and tests are often provided by the institution or course book. When designing a test, teachers should try to cover all four areas of learning.
