This unit covers the advantages and disadvantages of coursebooks, authentic and created materials, the latter with some examples. It also offers what to look for, when choosing a coursebook, and options on how to use it. Furthermore is goes on to explain, when and for which levels (not beginners) authentic materials. Though these are not graded they are often more interesting for an ESL student.In this unit I learnt the importance of teacing and working the vocabulary, grammar and functions when teaching english. We saw that when learning the vocabulary, students can usually understand many more words than they can actively use, thus the importance of teaching a wide vocabulary. I also saw how to introduce the grammatical structures and the language functions, in a ESA function lesson.
