My takeaway from Unit 1 is that motivation is the key to unlocking a productive classroom. When both teacher and student are motivated to push through the anxiety, doubt and fog of learning, then real progress can be made. Of course, good teaching is more nuanced then that; teacher's need to be conscious of their method, of when to push harder and when to allow room for creativity and student exploration. But by and large, teachers who genuinely care about their students progress - rather than, say, hearing their own voice - will naturally go out of their way to enable students who genuinely want to succeed. A teacher should always represent a model of highly-engaged and enthusiastic learning for his/her students to passively mimic.
