Unit 12 deals with the teaching of the two productive skills; speaking and writing. Both are equally important. For speaking, the differences between the activities for accuracy and fluency is explained to show that an alternative approach is required, moving from controlled activities for language accuracy to creative communication for language fluency. The text covers how to encourage students to speak, thus getting them engaged and interacting with each other. The unit moves onto writing; focusing on handwriting, spelling and punctuation which are three major differences between speaking and writing, apart from grammar and vocabulary. A couple of ESA model lessons are included together with a fun section on games in the classroom.
