Unit 3 consists of an overview of general methodologies and techniques teachers may employ when teaching English to students. The unit offered a full discussion of the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) methodology, which is an ideal lesson format for use by teachers teaching English to students who are learning it as a second language. The unit also offered in-depth examples of activities to use at each stage of the ESA lesson.This was an excellent unit on the various theories, methods and activities for teaching English. I really liked learning the ESA approach; the structure, as well as the theory behind the structure, makes a lot of sense and will give me more direction. I feel it will enable me to be a more effective teacher by understanding the goal of each methodology, and I will have the rationale behind my decisions for lesson plans.
