This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the basics of pronunciation and phonology. It includes sections on intonation, stress, the parts of the mouth used for speaking, how and when to teach pronunciation, the International Pronunciation Alphabet (IPA) and the reasons why pronunciation and phonology are often left out in English language teaching both by native-speaker and non-native-speaker English teachers. I think that it is extremely useful, but found it a difficult topic for various reasons. The first reason is that, I seldom think of it, and thus was not conscious of the process. Secondly, I am only barely familiar with the IPA and thus had to review it more intensively, and third, it covered more unfamiliar material than most of the other units.
