Conditionals and Reported Speech are very complicated for most students and even many native English speakers to understand. The teacher must first start by teaching Conditionals which consists of a Zero, First, Second, Third, and Mixed Conditionals. Each one uses a different tense such as Zero Conditional using “if/when + present tense, present tense†or First Conditional using if + present simple, will.†Then, the teacher must teach reported speech which changes the tense. For example, Zero Conditional uses the present simple, however, when reported it becomes past simple. Activities for reported speech can be simple as groups of 4 or more students can report what the previous student said to the student next to them.
