Unit 11 covers two (four?) important aspects of language acquisition; reading and listening (speaking and writing.) As described in the unit, these skills are not necessarily separate from each other, as a learner's reading abilities may be quite advanced but having poor listening abilities will not overall make for an easy acquisition of the new language. A great point made in the unit is the necessary balance in a teacher outlining and clarifying difficult vocabulary in say, a written sample, versus letting the students guess the general gist based upon words and phrases they already know. It is a great point that truly helping an individual learn a language involves a bit of \"natural\" learning as well, a 'learn as you go' approach.
