The teachers often have to create their own materials to either supplement the course book, or replace sections that are not suitable for the class. The materials created by the teacher are for many students more interesting and more relevant. This materials can be authentic and created. Authentic materials are usually more interesting and can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students, however they are not suitable for beginners.
Teaching using a course book is easier for the teacher and sometimes for the students. It provides a balanced mix of grammar, vocabulary and skills work. However, the teacher shouldn´t use the course book for the whole lesson because it can make the teacher lazy and stop them from being creative.
