In this unit, we discussed the importance of reading, listening, speaking, and writing. These skills are all equally important to learning a new language. Reading can be more accessible than listening since the words on paper are more permanent and can be read multiple times over. Writing can be more accessible because the writer can take more time to think out a sentence than when they speak. It is important to acknowledge these inequalities because you can pair them with listening and speaking to help build your students up to those skills. The teacher can build their students up by starting with reading activities, then move into writing activities. And by the end of the class, students will be more comfortable being in dialogue with each other.
