Unit 19 focused on teaching to special groups such as children and business professionals. What I took away from this lesson with regard to children is that the teacher may need to employ different means to create an engaging lesson. For example, the teacher should use a higher pitch and exaggerated intonation, give slower and more clearly pronounced delivery, and include lots of repetition. Furthermore, because children have shorter attention spans, it is important that the teacher vary the lessons and activities so as to avoid boredom. For business professionals, the teacher should be aware that the students may be tired and have irregular attendance, both of which will affect the way they perform in class and the rate at which they learn English.
