The content of Unit 11 is of the two receptive skills, reading and listening, with description of the different skills required: predictive, scanning, skimming, detailed reading/listening and deduction from context. Reasons and motives for reading/listening are emphasised, along with the need for careful selection of topics and texts that will motivate students and create interest, and enable the students to engage with the text - either authentic (not designed for language students) or non-authentic (designed for language students) texts.
I feel that this unit has opened yet another horizon - the teaching of the receptive skills of reading and listening. The Unit Tasks which include the lesson planning exercises help prepare for teaching this topic.
