This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 13 was by far the hardest unit to study. The unit presented the importance of teaching pronunciation and the technical terms needed to teach it. As a native English speaker I never thought of how certain parts of a word are stressed, nor did I pay much attention to a sentence's intonation, so I found the unit particularly helpful. As a teacher it is important to pay close attention to how the emphasis of certain words gives a sentence certain meanings. When teaching pronunciation it is also important to explain how the mouth and vocal cords are at play. Ways to do this are by modeling with your own mouth, using diagrams as visuals, peer dictation, and tongue twisters. This unit was particularly challenging because I never learned phonetic script.
