This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the basics of classroom management, including the use of body language and voice, the pros and cons of different class word groupings, classroom arrangement, teacher and student talk tine, how to give instructions, establishing rapport, and maintaining discipline. This unit has reaffirmed my previous knowledge of good classroom management, while pointing out particular areas that are most effective for ESL classrooms, such as using group or pair work to maximize students talk time. The differences in classroom arrangement were also interesting; while I often use groups of desk for group work, I have never considered a horseshoe shape for smaller classes for a more relaxed class. I’m interested to try this at an elementary level.
