There is a lot more to teaching pronunciation than I thought previous to this unit. Knowing the IPA, over-emphasizing how to use my mouth to make certain sounds, practicing difficult or similar sounds with tongue twisters, these are all things I've done to help students with pronunciation. I never thought about intonation or stress, however. Even after studying it, it's difficult to hear it in myself without repetition, or even using the rules taught in this unit! As a native speaker, there's so much we can be unaware of ourselves doing, but we can hear it when it's missing in non-native speakers. It was interesting and exciting to learn ways to help pinpoint these parts of pronunciation while also having great examples and techniques to use in class.
