When you are a native speaker of a language, you normally don't really think about the different parts of speech and how they all fit together. When you learn a new language it forces you to consider your own native tongue and how words and speech fit together. I personally find learning irregular verbs challenging for most students and also the placement and order of adjectives. I think it is important to reallize that not all languages have the same sentence structure, and allow our students the oppurtunity to see many examples. I didn't like diagraming a sentence when I was in school, but I definitely see the need to show my students many examples and practice for themselves. Some things just have to be memorized and experienced to start making sense.
