The unit highlighted the importance of teaching pronunciation. Often students are nervous to participate in a discussion, not because they don’t have the necessary vocabulary, but they are not comfortable with the pronunciation of the words. Intonation is very important when we want to get a specific message across. We can create different scenarios for the students to illustrate the different message within the same sentence by just altering the intonation and the stressed words. The different pronunciation of similar looking sounds also tends to be a concept that students find difficult. The discussion on the speech organs and articulation gave me a good background and will help me to assist my students in exploring where and how sounds are formed.
