This unit deals with modal auxiliary verbs and a detailed examination of using the passive voice, as well as a brief overview of phrasal verbs and relative clauses. I understood that modal auxiliary verbs could be used to control or express different degrees of normality i.e. modal auxiliary verbs can change the formality and meaning of the main verb. Obviously, modal auxiliary verb expresses the power exercised by the speaker in various degrees without change of form.In the passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. Both sentences basically have the same meaning, but the focus is different. In the active voice, the focus is on the agent. In the passive voice, the agent or doer of the action is much less important.
