Distinguishing between different tenses can be very difficult even for person who speaks English as his/her first language. There are three different tenses in English and these three include the past, present, and future. Each of these has four aspects which include simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous. This unit covers the four present tenses: present simple, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous. Because tenses can be difficult for English language learners to understand, it is important for English teachers to have a good sense of the different forms of tenses as well as how to utilize these tenses in a structured sentence and how to recognize typical student errors in order to come up with correction strategies.
