The two parts of language that were discussed in this unit are speaking and writing. These are the productive skills and are equally as important as the receptive skills that were discussed in the previous unit. Whether the students are practicing speaking or writing, it is important that they have a reason to do so. The teacher can encourage participation by creating interest in the subject of skill that is being practiced. Whether it is a controlled activity, guided activity, or creative communication, the teacher should encourage the students to participate and interact. Four of the main challenges with teaching writing are spelling, handwriting, punctuation, and layout. Games are an excellent and engaging way to teach both speaking and writing skills.
