This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Teaching receptive skills (reading and listening) are just as important as teaching productive skills (speaking and writing), although it can be more difficult to teach because of the skills needed to successfully understand what one reads/hears. Specifically when it comes to listening, students can find it intimidating because they may find that there is more they don't understand than what they do understand. However, ensuring that the lesson plan carefully addresses these issues by, for example, including a study phase of going over some more difficult vocabulary, or providing the students with a script of what they listened to (only after they have listened and understood) will help ensure that the students comprehend and retain the information they learn.
