In learning and teaching any new language there are some major aspects of language that need to be covered which are vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. Within each of those we must teach the meaning, how and when it is appropriate to use, where it belongs grammatically, it's interaction with other words and language, spelling and pronunciation. Choosing which of each major aspect to teach should be decided by it's appropriateness to the students, text and task, how frequently it's used, and it's teachability. Vocabulary is key to expression and description. Grammatical structures are can indicate when events happened or will happen. Lastly language functions are larger gestures and expressive in English which give one more freedom to act.
