This unit reviewed a number of different 'teaching English to foreign learners' techniques. After reviewing other techniques, the ESA approach is introduced and declared as the technique the teacher in training must use in this course. The Engage, Study and Activate (ESA) technique is then presented with descriptions of the aim for each phase, ideas for activities, and how to elicit responses from students. The differences and purposes for each stage are presented along with examples. Three types of lesson plan strategies are presented: straight arrow, boomerang, and patchwork. The flow for each technique is described and how to use them with variety and flexibility. Lots of examples are provided throughout this unit to help understand the concepts presented.
