Unit 14 covers course materials. Course materials are either authentic or created. Authentic materials are anything from programs, magazines, newspapers, movies, etc. Created materials are original materials designed by the teacher, specifically for His/her EFL class, and consist of things like crossword puzzles, word-search puzzles, role-play cards, flash cards, etc. Course books have advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include; well-defined syllabus, less time-consuming for the teacher, continuity, and the teacher's book which offers helpful ideas for the teacher to supplement the lesson. Disadvantages are; it does not fit specific students' needs, students might not like it, the course book can become boring, and course books can dictate what is to be taught.
