This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 4 covered the present tenses. This included simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous types with explanation of each type’s forms and usage as well as examples of typical student errors and active stage ideas. Verb tenses are hard for ESL students to get straight, so it is imperative that teachers understand each form and are able to explain the subtle differences to students.
I struggled with this unit as the content has always been intuitive. I have never studied verb tenses in depth, so it took a lot of practice to be able to differentiate between the different tenses and anticipate student difficulties. I found this unit useful because there were multiple examples of student mistakes and instructions on how to properly correct these mistakes.
