This unit covers two videos of the same class of students in the first of which the teacher demonstrates a very low energy approach to the lesson. He seems impatient with the students, unprepared for the lesson and has a tendency to use jargon which the students clearly do not understand. Faced with this incomprehension, the teacher fails to change his tactics leading to a complete lack of participation on the part of the students. In the second video the teacher is more upbeat. He learns the students' names, he smiles, he uses mime and gesture to elicit responses from the students who participate fully in the lesson. It is noteworthy that all three stages of the ESA lesson plan are clearly visible in the second video whereas in the first video there is no such clarity.
