Throughout this unit, I was taught how important the four basic skills of any language are (reading, listening, speaking and writing). However this unit was more focused on the receptive skills which are reading and listening. I was taught the motives to read or listen. The different types of reading and listening which are scanning, skimming, specific information, detailed information, deduction from content and lastly predictive skills. I was also taught how to use this knowledge to teach and improve the students level of reading and listening through different dialogues and texts. One must be careful of using too much authentic text and not enough non-authentic text. As well as one must engage their audience (the students) which mean one must use a variety of topics.
