This section on productive language skills, reading and writing, make me think about my own language learning experience and how certain classes I have taken did not treat these two skills as equally important. In order to effectively learn a new language, learning to write may not necessarily be a required skill, but doing so helps develop more accuracy over fluency in the language because students are required to be more careful in their production due to the nature of written communication. Speaking, on the other hand, relies slightly more on fluency. Nevertheless both forms of productive language require both properties and this unit gave a great overview on the ways that a teacher can go about fostering accuracy and fluency while teaching both writing and speaking.
