As in the previous unit, teaching the productive skills of speaking and writing are used for the same reason as speaking and listening, to communicate. It's important for the teacher to create need and desire in the students to communicate. If students don't see the importance they may not want to participate. The unit discusses a few things to keep in mind when preparing a lesson with productive skills. First, know the difference between accuracy and fluency activities in order to incorporate them in the proper phase of the lesson plan. Speaking activities are highly encouraged for students to be given opportunity to communicate freely and creatively for fluency. Using games in the classroom helps students have fun while reinforcing communication and learned vocabulary.
