This unit touches on introducing new vocabulary, functions and grammatical structures. It teaches the main elements of what students need to know in order to have the most success (for example: usage, meaning, and spelling, etc.). It gives some examples of techniques that can be used when introducing new vocabulary, grammar or functions to the class. Examples of a \"straight arrow\" structured ESA vocabulary lesson, an ESA \"patchwork\" grammar lesson, and an ESA \"boomerang\" type lesson are given. It gives helpful lists of appropriate activities for teaching new language functions as well as vocabulary and grammar structures for each stage. A role play activity is a good idea for the Activate whereas Gap-fill exercises more appropriate for the Study phases of the lesson.
