This unit covers the types of tests that EFL teachers may give students as well as those external exams that might be helpful to students in receiving credentials for working or studying in English-speaking countries. The unit breaks down types of tests into the main categories of diagnostic, progress, placement, practice, and external, clarifying what each type of test involves and when or why it might be appropriate to give the test. I learned that practice tests can motivate students to do well on their external exams as well as give them an idea of how much more studying they may need to do, and in what areas. This unit demonstrated for me how testing can be used as a tool to check students' individual strengths and weaknesses without being too large a source of stress.
