I was interested to learn about the different methodologies and approaches which have emerged over the years. It’s also helpful to know that there is no “best way,†and that each philosophical approach to language instruction has its strengths and weaknesses. I believe this will help me to take an eclectic approach to adapt to different circumstances and constraints such as language-level, culture, age, etc. I also learned a lot from the E-S-A approach to lesson planning, and that it can be implemented in a variety of fashions including the straight arrow, boomerang, and patchwork styles. Finally, learning how and when to give feedback is also very helpful, as I tend to communicate in a blunt and direct fashion at times, which may be discouraging to students.
