There are often problems that teachers will face in the classroom that can fortunately be mitigated with simple corrections, careful planning, and frequent self evaluation. For example, setting the tone on the first day of class with getting to know you activities to establish rapport is more effective than starting with page one of the textbook. Similarly, starting the daily class with a game or short communicative activity is more effective than immediately jumping into a grammar lesson. For reluctant speakers, it's important to give lots of practice time and continue to offer opportunities for communication and participation. Patience, flexibility, and self reflection are key qualities for teachers in the classroom to elicit learning gains and progress from the students.
