Productive skills-speaking and writing are very different yet share the same goal, which is to communicate. Speaking focuses more on fluency and writing on accuracy as this skill is more difficult. I was surprised to read that \"writing is the most neglected skill...\" when teaching English as a foreign language. However, I can understand that students would prefer to have more speaking time to allow for the development of the language. This unit informs the reader of the differences between accuracy and fluency, as well as where each is used - fluency in the activate phase and accuracy in the study phase. Examples are provided for each, including controlled activities and creative communication. Teacher must be prepared to engage students enough to be motivated to learn.
