This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit gives an overview of productive skills—speaking and writing—which are used to communicate. I did not realize until recently (though before reading through this unit) that writing was a skill that is often neglected in comparison to other skills mentioned. This can happen because the teacher might not want to use class time for what is considered a quiet activity, so writing becomes assigned for homework, where it may not get completed. Thus, the skill does not become as developed as other skills that are more closely cultivated and monitored in class. Realizing this, I want to start thinking of ways to incorporate short but effective writing activities in my lesson plans. I hope to encourage all of my students to work on all of their language skills equally.
