This unit covers teaching vocabulary, grammar, and language functions in a classroom and how the three relate to one another. Also detailed in this section is what students need to know about these three topics when they are learning, such as how it is written or pronounced, the usage, and how it relates to other parts of the language. The many sample lessons provided in this unit helped me learn just how to structure a lesson and what activity can be effective in each phase of the ESA method when teaching each subject, especially language functions. I also learned a lot about teaching language functions, specifically how it stresses the need for language activation with the students and the importance of appropriateness when teaching both formal and informal language functions.
