The fundamental structure of the English language is the sentence. A sentence is composed of parts of speech and how they function. Learning the parts of speech can be complicated for both teachers and students. Therefore, it is essential that a teacher is very knowledgeable of how words relate to each other in sentences. A good place to begin teaching the parts of speech is, of course, with the basics. The basics would entail teaching about the subject of a sentence, which is the part about which something is said; and then the predicate, the part which says something about the subject. Staring with the basic sentence structure would form the framework to introduce the numerous grammatical rules which follow to help a student to become a fluent speaker of the English language.
