Through the video lessons, I learnt that a teacher’s attitude towards his or her students can have profound impact on the success of the class. When the teacher in the second video smiled at his students and called on their names, he was able to effectively encourage them to participate in class. They, in turn, felt welcome, and gladly responded to the questions that the teacher asked. On the other hand, I also learnt that it was important to know when to and when not to explain grammar points. The teacher in the first video focused too much on the grammatical term “modal auxiliary verb†but failed to explain what it is and how you can use it in an engaging manner. The students thus felt intimidated and confused, and eventually were quite unwilling to participate.
