This unit looks at additional grammar concepts, specifically Modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. It covers the basic principles rules and usages of modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. This unit also briefly describes teaching ideas on how to effectively teach these concepts to ESL or EFL students. Modals verbs are as follows: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to. They are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. They are used to express things such as obligation and expression, among other ideas. Passive voice is one of the two main voices found in the English language ( active and passive). In the passive, the object of an active verb changes to the subject of the passive verb.
