The unit focused on the receptive skills which are reading and listening. It also focused on the reasons for reading and listening, these include reading for a purpose and for entertainment. The unit covered ground on a number of specialist skills readers and listeners employ. These include predictive skills, scanning, skimming and deduction from context. I learnt that all skills are equally important and it is wise for a teacher to try and incorporate all of the skills in order maintain a balanced approach. I also learnt that sometimes students might face challenges and the teacher may overcome these challenges by choosing material that interests or motivates students. Also the teacher may overcome these challenges by pre teaching vocabulary structures before engaging in an activity.
