For the specific differences about how to differentiate past simple from past continuous, present perfect from present continuous, teachers should demonstrate practical, action-related examples so as for learners to be able to learn them more effectively.
While teaching how to form past simple sentences at the beginning, the focus should/may not be the correct usages of the irregular verbs because they can be taught at a later phase. All what students have to do about the irregular verbs is memorize, so at least not correcting immediately preferably may not be at the start. It can be a motivating way for past simple and present perfect, as well.
