In Unit 7 I learned all about how to best teach vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. As stated at the beginning of the unit, students need to be able to do four key things with new language: be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how its formed/constructed, and be able to produce it. Once you are aware of these four things you can create your lesson using the ESA structure. For example, you can expose students to new vocabulary or language structures in the Engage phase of the lesson, explain the meaning and construction of the new vocabulary or language structures in the Study phase, and then have the students practice and produce what they have learned in the Activate stage. These will ensure that your lessons are effective and always attain their objective.
