Unit 11 covers the important topic of receptive language, namely reading and listening skills, which are important when teaching and learning a new language. Units that we will eventually teach could be integrated lessons that cover both receptive and productive language, but it is also helpful if lessons focus more on more specific skills. When using receptive language skills, the learner is using reading or listening for a purpose or for entertainment. This unit also covers how we read and listen and that it's not just with our eyes and ears. In fact, we are using our brains and many different strategies, such as prediction, skimming, scanning, etc., as we read or listen. This unit covers those strategies as well as provides a sample ESA lesson and activities to include when teaching.
