This unit lists and describes the different teaching equipment and teaching aids used in a language class. Each equipment and aid has particular advantages and disadvantages, and the teacher usually has the opportunity to choose several in his/her classroom. For example, the blackboard/whiteboard is often a staple in most classrooms. It can be used for writing, emphasizing points, drawing, as a projection surface, etc.. On the other hand, interactive whiteboards, or smart boards, are less common, but probably elicit more participation from students. Smart boards can also malfunction, so it may be a good strategy to have a mix of various equipment. Aside from the flexibility this allows the teacher, it also, in my opinion, provides the variety that helps keep students more engaged.
