Receptive skills and production skills are very important for successful study and retention of a new language. Receptive skills include reading and listening, both equally important. Reading can occur for pleasure or for a more utilitarian purpose and differing levels of focus and concentration are incorporated subject to the purpose of acquiring new information or simply for pleasure and recreation. Production skills include the acts of writing and speaking. Through exposure and study of unfamiliar vocabulary and grammar skills, the student gains confidence and becomes more adept in speaking the language with more fluidity and expertise. The material presented to the students should picque the interest of all so as to maintain the attention span of the students as much as possible.'
