In this unit I learned about a variety of techniques for effective classroom management, including the effective use of the voice, eye contact and gestures. These three things help to show confidence, involve students in the lesson, maintain control over problem behaviour and to generally maintain interest in the lesson. Learning student names can make it easier to organise activities or get a student's attention, which improves classroom management, and a student's name should be used at the end of a question. There are various ways to group a classroom and structure the seating, including whole class groups, pair work and individual work, as well as seating in rows, a horseshoe or separate tables, and this will depend on considerations of class size, nationality and student personalities.
