This unit covers modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, relative clauses and phrasal verbs. Starting with modal verbs, their usage for present and future meanings is explored as well as their usage to express past ideas. Particularly helpful to clarify each modal verb is the table presented on pages 2 and 3: this gives an extensive overview of all verbs, elucidates what is their usage and give examples for both present/future and past situations. The unit then moves on to the explanation of the passive voice: how it is formed, which are its usages and what typical mistakes and errors students can make. Subsequently, relative clauses are discussed in relation to independent and dependent clauses. Lastly, the main there types or phrasal verbs are introduced and examples for each type are given.
